Mission
OUR GOALS
The members of 100 Igbos USA INC. have set forth the following goals in these sectors: HEALTHCARE, WATER, AGRICULTURE, & PRESERVATION
HEALTHCARE
In health care, we will collaborate with existing facilities, non-governmental organizations NGOs), charitable organizations, and agencies within and outside Nigeria and Igboland to plan and execute primary secondary and tertiary health care programs.
Our plans include:
The establishment of well-equipped, high-tech, mobile, diagnostic surgical and medical clinics to serve the communities in Anaigbo. These clinics will be furnished with state of the art equipment to facilitate medical missions to rural areas without adequate hospital facilities. –Our first mobile clinic will be completed in June of 2010.
100 Igbos is currently accepting donations and raising funds for the construction of a second mobile clinic.
Ultimately, a 150-bed hospital staffed by trained doctors and nurses, a learning center for technical assistance and specialized education, a medical office building and a visitors center to accommodate visiting health care professionals will serve as a hub of a health-care system that extends to remote sites in regional areas. 100 Igbos USA, Inc. is exploring not only plans for such services, but also affiliation with major foreign educational institutions to help the plans succeed.
- 100 Igbos signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Eastern Nigeria Medical Center (ENMC), in Enugu in June of 2009. Our mobile clinics will be stored here. Operations will begin in the summer of 2010.
WATER
In Communities we will work to provide clean, affordable, and reliable water supplies. The goal will be to establish 50-100 boreholes throughout Anaigbo to support the infrastructure of health care facilities and educational institutions. Appropriate partnerships will be established with local communities and governments as deemed necessary. Plans are in the works to sink our first borehole in 2011.
AGRICULTURE
Small and subsistence farmers make up approximately 90 percent of Nigeria’s population. Given education and equipment, such farmers could not only feed themselves and their families, but produce food for sale in Nigeria and neighboring nations.
100 Igbos USA, INC, will, in collaboration with the University of Illinois-Urbana College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, proposes a small-farm initiative to increase current yields by three or four times.
The initiative, which will be centered around regional 10-acre demonstration farm centers, will train farmers in proper farming methods and use of appropriate mechanized equipment. As the farmers build better lives or themselves and add to the economic stability of their country, the centers will offer ongoing support and more advanced education.
PRESERVATION
Alaigbo’s is rich in history and culture, but to preserve the traditions of generations past, we must improve the quality of life for today’s generations and the future. To that end, we wish to create a forum for Ndigbo from different generations and diverse experience to come together in dialogue, to network, mentor, and be mentored.
- 100 Igbos will hold the Inaugural African Diaspora Intergenerational Dialogue: The Igbo Experience at the Igbo Village in Staunton, Virginia in the fall of 2010. The theme of this Inaugural Dialogue is ” Our Identity and Future”. Using the Igbo experience as a focus, we plan to address issues of history, religion, and culture.
MOVING FORWARD
We continue to seek funding for these and other programs. As we move forward with these initiatives, we will attempt to influence current government policies, encourage election of principled government officials, and improve education and educational facilities. The challenges are great and the need is immense, but through partnership and an unwavering commitment to integrity, we will succeed.
